CHSAA/Ivy League boys basketball roundup: St. Francis Prep ousts Xaverian

Break up the Terriers!

A week after upsetting archrival Holy Cross by 16 on the road, St. Francis Prep won its second league game, defeating Xaverian, 69-57, in Fresh Meadows Friday night.

Joey Salerno led the way for No. 10 St. Francis Prep (9-5, 2-3 Brooklyn/Queens ), which has already doubled last year’s league win total, with 22 points, Andrew Winter added 17, George Hatzioannides had 13 and Mike Murray netted 12. The Terriers shot a season-high 80 percent (16-of-20) from the foul line.

Greg Civiletti scored 21 points for No. 9 Xaverian (6-4, 0-3), which has lost three straight league games to start the year.

 

No. 1 Christ the King 69, No. 8 Bishop Loughlin 57: Omar Calhoun scored 20 points, Chris Ortiz had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Corey Edwards added eight points and 10 assists for Christ the King (7-3, 4-0 Brooklyn/Queens) Friday night in Fort Greene. Bishop Loughlin fell to 5-7, 2-2.

No. 5 Holy Cross 77, No. 6 Archbishop Molloy 67: Marquise Moore had 22 points, Evan Conti had 16 points, Will Davis netted 12 and Marcus Hopper had 11 points and 17 rebounds to lead Holy Cross (10-5, 2-2 Brooklyn/Queens) over Archbishop Molloy (9-4, 1-2) Friday night.

No. 7 Cardinal Hayes 62, Fordham Prep 44: Amadou Sidibe scored a game-high 26 points to lead Cardinal Hayes (9-4, 3-1 A-North), while Tom Whelan had 19 points for Fordham Prep (10-1, 3-1 A-Central).

Archbishop Stepinac 61, Iona Prep 55: Conroy Baltimore had 17 points and Julian Wright added 16 for Archbishop Stepinac (9-5, 4-2 A-North), while James Gallery netted a game-high 21 points and Felix Abongo had nine points for Iona Prep (8-6, 6-3) Friday night in White Plains.

Bishop Ford 67, LaSalle 46: Arend Augustus scored a game-high 29 points, Eric Kippins had 15 and Josh Blagrove netted 14 for Bishop Ford (5-6, 3-3 A-South), while Avery Brown had 20 points for LaSalle (2-9, 0-8).

Monsignor Farrell 70, St. Joseph by the Sea 60: Steve Diaz scored 16 points, Thomas Delahanty netted 14, Garrett Dowd had 12 and Joe Busacca added 10 for Monsignor Farrell (9-9) Friday night in Huguenot. Mike Nierva led all scorers with 18 points, Alan Siergiej had 15 and Stephen Matrangelo scored 14 for St. Joseph by the Sea (2-10).

St. Peter’s 64, Petrides 39: Stefan Bock tallied 18 points and Ethan Peana added 13 points to pace St. Peter’s (14-3), while Tyler Summers had 19 points and Elijah Bryant scored 15 for Petrides (2-15) Friday night.

Tottenville 75, Moore Catholic 64: Kevin Alesi exploded for 36 points, John Buonocore had 11 points and Tim O’Toole netted 10 for Tottenville (9-8), while Mark Fiorello had 22 points and Matthew Padilla had 16 points for Moore Catholic (4-10) Friday night in Huguenot.

Salesian 71, Blessed Sacrament 38: Kevin Punter had 21 points and seven assists and Jason Alleyne added 21 points and 11 rebounds for Salesian (8-2, 4-0 ‘B’) Thursday afternoon in White Plains. David Rucker had 10 points for Blessed Sacrament (2-7, 0-2).
