A day late perhaps, but here is a look at this week’s updated state rankings.
Mount Vernon climbed to No. 2 in Class AA after a strong opening weekend. The two-time defending state champ is the area’s highest-rated team, although several others have climbed quote high thanks to strong starts. Unbeaten Byram Hills and Peekskill are both in the Top 5 in A; unbeaten Briarcliff is sixth in B; and Tuckahoe and Children’s Village are both Top 5 in C and D, respectively.
Admittedly, I’m not sure where the last five teams will shake out. It’s too early to tell, but all are certainly sectional contenders in their respective classes.
Anyway, here’s a peek at the Top 3 in each class and where other local teams fell:
1. Christ the King (CHSAA)
2. Mount Vernon
3. Long Island Lutheran (AIS)
Others: Stepinac (16th), North Rockland (22nd), Arlington, Clarkstown South, Iona Prep, New Rochelle, Mahopac (HM)
1. Springfield Garden (PSAL)
2. Bishop Ludden (Section 3)
3. Byram Hills
Others: Peekskill (4th), Poughkeepsie (24th), Pearl River, Rye (HM)
1. Collegiate (AIS)
